The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (ai???RIDDORai??i??) has been in force since April 1996 and made it the law that companies had to report to the Health and Safety Executive work accidents and certain types of near misses.Ai?? The trigger point for reporting most types of accidents at work was if the injury sustained in the accident caused the worker to be incapacitated from doing their normal work for 3 consecutive days or more (not counting the day of the accident).Ai?? With effect from 6th April 2012 this has now changed to 7 consecutive days or more.Ai?? The obvious concern is that if the Health and Safety Executive is not informed about accidents occurring in a workplace then it is unlikely to visit the workplace and advise the company on improvements in health and safety.

The report to the Health and Safety Executive must be made within 10 days of the accident and the HSE now expects the report to be made online using the standard forms that can be found at www.hse.gov.uk/riddor/report.htm
